Everyone's asked "How was your trip [to Boston]?" and my initial response is "Wonderful!" But then I start to feel sad. Arriving in Boston felt like coming "home". Friends welcomed us and in many ways it was like we'd never left. We were even in the same hotel room we had 9 months ago. But then seeing the babies have become toddlers and new babies have arrived, I'm reminded that time doesn't stop. Things have changed. Life carries on.

I hopelessly want to get back to Boston. I regret leaving a year ago. I love the feel of the city. I love the old architecture. I love being able to get everywhere on foot. And honestly, I love the cold fall weather. But mostly, I love my Boston buddies.
Even if we can move back in the future though, I feel like so much will have changed, it won't be what I'm picturing. I worry we won't fit in there. And I don't think we fit in here. I'm trying to embrace life here. I remind myself daily that these two little girls won't be little long. But it often feels like we're jut going through the motions. Couting the days. We do fun stuff. We hang out with good people. But no matter how hard I try, suburban life just isn't for me.

It is so hard going from city to suburban. I hope that you will find contentment for where you are now even if you're not there for long!
ReplyDeleteI keep telling myself to just snap out of it. Surely, I will at some point. How long did you guys really long for NYC?
DeleteI feel like Boston is a kind of utopia for stay at home mamas. So easy to walk everywhere, so many fun things to WALK to with the kids, so many friends to see every day. I miss it too. Well, mostly I miss you and our friends there.
ReplyDeleteWere we live now is not really suburbia or city... and I do like it a lot - but I do miss Boston a lot more than I thought I would too.
